prepared me so well . Even still , in a really busy independent practice , it ’ s still benefiting me : the mindset , the knowledge base , the work ethic , all that I got from being there .”
With the grueling hours of intern year wearing on him and still two-and-a-half years left , he knew he needed to make a plan for his future .
“ I had done a GI rotation and liked the idea of just diving right in to one topic really deeply . I like doing procedures , so specializing seemed like a good idea and GI is a good mix of chronic conditions in the office as well as procedures and acute issues in the hospital . You ’ re never stuck in one spot . So , I quickly changed trajectory and started planning for a future in GI .”
By the time they finished residency in 2016 , the two were married and planning their futures . Dr . Megan Krease is a Louisville native , a Sacred Heart then University of Kentucky grad , and coming back here felt like a natural fit . They moved once again and Megan joined the All Children Pediatrics group , seeing little ones from birth onwards .
Although he applied all around the country , Dr . Krease was relieved to be accepted to the University of Louisville ’ s program in the Department of Gastroenterology , Hepatology and Nutrition . The three-year program was competitive , only five fellows per year , and fast-paced , but he enjoyed every second of the training .
On June 30 , 2019 , he finished at UofL and one day later on July 1 , started his first day at his new practice . Knowing he didn ’ t want to work in a hospital full-time , he talked to a few private practice groups in town and ultimately decided that Gastroenterology Health Partners was the best fit for him and the lifestyle he wanted to have moving forward .
An average week for Dr . Krease consists of three-and-a-half days at their endoscopy center and one-and-a-half days in their office . He sees a variety of patients of all ages and conditions , but the main procedures he does are EGD and colonoscopy . He also treats patients with inflammatory bowel disease , reflux disease and trouble swallowing .
Outside his practice , Dr . Krease is also the gastroenterologist for residents of Cedar Lake Lodge , a facility in LaGrange , Kentucky for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities . “ It ’ s a great facility and organization , and I ’ m so happy to be able to help those residents and do the work that I do for them .”
While he calls Louisville home now , his roots are still in Michigan . He and Megan take weekend trips back to see his family and you can find him following his MSU and Detroit teams throughout the year .
