12 th Doctors ’ Cup Awards Record-Breaking Scholarship Amounts

We had a beautiful summer day on August 22 at Hurstbourne Country Club for the 12 th annual GLMS Foundation Doctors ’ Cup golf scramble ! While no one won a luxury car this year , we still broke records with number of teams playing and scholarships awarded .

After a full day on the course with 24 teams , we finished with a reception where we awarded prizes to those finishing first , second and third , and drew raffle tickets for prizes from our sponsors . Coming in first place and getting their name added to the trophy was the team sponsored by RH Clarkson and included Damon Thurman , David Clarkson , Roy Thomas and Tyler Thompson . UofL Health sponsored the second-place team , and the team of Merrick Kemper / Merrick Printing came in third . This year ’ s infamous Worst Putter Award went home with Rick Tobe .
While taking home a trophy at the end of the day is nice , the focus of this event is to honor our University of Louisville medical students with scholarships . Many medical students these days will

graduate with over $ 200,000 in debt . This year , we were able to award eight students with scholarships of $ 10,000 each – the most we ’ ve ever given in one year in Doctors ’ Cup history ! These students were selected not only for their academic merits , but also their service and leadership qualities . This year ’ s award recipients were David Dawson Willis , Emma Jacobs , Jordan Swindle , Matthew Miracle , Savanna Holland , Stephen Nash , Jessica Sparks and Meghan Hawthorne ( read more about these students on the next page ). Dr . Toni Ganzel , Dean of the University of Louisville School of Medicine , commended the students on their hard work and congratulated them on being selected for this year ’ s scholarships .
We would like to extend a sincere thank you to all of the sponsors and volunteers who helped make this day a reality . Without your support , none of this would be possible !
Mark your calendars for next year : the 13 th annual Doctors ’ Cup will take place on Monday , September 18 , 2023 . We look forward to seeing you there !
