INTRODUCING the NEW GLMS STRATEGIC PLAN

MISSION : GLMS empowers physicians by creating engaging experiences , advancing meaningful advocacy and building impactful relationships in the community .

Most organizations start with an idea that grows into a vision of what they want to be and a mission of what they need to do to get there . The growth involved in fulfilling an organization ’ s mission and vision takes planning , strategic planning to be exact . Organizations need to be flexible in responding to the changing environment and to the needs of its stakeholders . Strategic planning allows organizations to reflect on their strengths and weaknesses as well as recognize the current threats and opportunities in the evolving environment to determine where growth needs to happen .

The Greater Louisville Medical Society , like many organizations , has recognized the need to respond to the changing environment . The new environment has given GLMS the opportunity to reflect on its current programs and services and examine if the path always taken is the right path to continue . It was time for GLMS to undergo strategic planning that will set GLMS on a new path that meets the needs of its members and stakeholders in this evolving environment .
Please know that the Strategic Plan being presented here is the product of honesty , positive intent and a desire for GLMS to be the best it can be for its members . However , with all strategic plans , it ’ s only as good as the commitment to it and our ability to keep our mission and vision in mind . The vision of uniting physicians has remained the same . The mission , though somewhat different from before , still states what we need to do today to get to our vision of the future . Goals can change , and the expectation is that the goals will change based on what happens in our environment . For GLMS to be sustainable , we need tangible yet flexible goals to help us along our path . For GLMS to be successful , we need everyone ’ s commitment to creating a collaborative community that unites physicians .
