The Louisville medical community lost a noble , esteemed practitioner of internal medicine on Dec . 18 , 2022 .

Dr . Brennan is survived by her beloved husband , Charles Meers , as well as , her son John L . Brennan , his wife Elenita , and their children Joseph and Juliana of Tallahassee , Florida , and her son Douglas Brennan , his wife Andrea , and their children Austen , Caitlin , Alyssa and Brien of Youngsville , North Carolina . Florida , Vickie McCann of Davie , Florida , and Alice McCann of Seminole , Florida , along with two stepdaughters , Brenda Schulz and Amanda Stavenger of Louisville .
Dr . Brennan grew up in New York and Florida . Her early childhood was spent in New Hyde Park , New York , until at age 10 , her family moved south and settled in Miami , Florida . Being both bright and competitive from an early age , Fran served as a wonderful role model for her younger sisters , then for her own family , children and grandchildren , and for her colleagues and associates throughout her professional life .
Dr . Brennan came to Kentucky and completed her PhD in psychology at the University of Louisville . Her path as a psychologist included the unique experience of in-hospital work with the medical
team for an artificial heart recipient . Her indomitable spirit would lead her to enroll in seven years of arduous medical training . She matriculated into the UofL School of Medicine and graduated as an outstanding physician from the UofL Internal Medicine Residency program in 1997 .
Dr . Brennan practiced medicine with Louisville Medical Associates until her retirement . She was an excellent practitioner and a trusted colleague . She was charitable and generous with her time and talent , never lording her two doctoral degrees over her peers and partners . She found great joy in the practice of medicine . Her patients were the recipients of her compassionate care . Her most derelict and noncompliant patients attracted her highest attention . Her most high-brow and sophisticated patients adored her , carefully following her wisdom-laced medical advice . She remained practical in her use of resources , enjoying her time off and maintaining her financial responsibilities .
Dr . Brennan was , and will be remembered as , one of the most empathetic of physicians , balancing firm convictions with evidenced-based medicine and giving her patients the very best of herself in helping them to lead longer and healthier lives . Expressions of sympathy can be made to The Alzheimer ’ s Association .
