LIFE AFTER MEDICINE
hike up the iconic Angel ’ s Landing in Zion National Park . This was a definite bucket list item for me . I highly recommend visiting these beautiful National Parks especially if you ’ ve never done so .
In May of 2022 , we visited St . Augustine and Savannah for the first time , and we had a great time touring these historic cities . After this , we drove up to north Georgia , and I hiked a section of the Georgia Appalachian Trail ( AT ) and also did an overnight backpacking trip on the AT with our youngest son , which was both challenging and enjoyable . In the late summer of 2022 , my medical school classmate , Dr . George Bosse and I hiked up the northern terminus of the AT , Mount Katahdin , in Maine , which was extremely challenging and a little scary for this 65-year-old . Finally in fall 2022 , my wife and I visited Toronto , Montreal and Quebec City in Canada for the first time , and we had a wonderful vacation in a part of North America we had never visited .
We have also visited our three sons and their families multiple times since retiring . None of our children live in town and being retired gives us the ability to visit when their schedule best allows as opposed to the pre-retirement days when so much was dictated by my schedule .
The blessing of being able to help patients was one of the most
satisfying aspects of my years as an interventional radiologist . Though I no longer am involved in direct patient care , the blessing that I receive from helping people can continue into retirement , and the flexibility and freedom that retirement affords has made it a great decision for me , one that I ’ ve never regretted !
Dr . Tatum is a retired interventional and diagnostic radiologist who practiced with Diagnostic Imaging Alliance of Louisville covering Norton Downtown and Brownsboro from 1989-2020 .
