Legislative Reception Recap by KATHRYN VANCE
On Mon ., Feb . 6 , GLMS physicians hosted state legislators and Metro Council members at Angel ’ s Envy Distillery for the 2023 Legislative Reception . After two years of restructuring to accommodate this event virtually , our physicians and legislators were so happy to have an opportunity to meet in person and discuss pressing health care issues .
In attendance this year were several Metro Council members , Kentucky State Representatives , a Kentucky State Senator and representatives from the Mayor ’ s Office . Attendees included : Reps . Daniel Grossberg , Richard Heath , Nima Kulkarni and Kim Moser ; Senator Karen Berg , MD ; Metro Council members Cindi Fowler and Betsy Ruhe ; Deputy Mayor , David James , Deputy Chief of Staff , Keisha Dorsey , and Intergovernmental & Community Affairs Liaison , Keturah Morrow . Cory Meadows , Deputy Executive Vice President and Director of Advocacy of the Kentucky Medical Association and Monalisa Tailor , MD , President of KMA , were also in attendance . legislative issues : prior authorization exemption , physician wellness and scope of practice . Within the event space , we stationed posters around the room highlighting these issues , to serve as a starting point for conversations .
GLMS continued advocating for these issues in Frankfort at the 2023 KMA Physicians ’ Day at the Capitol on Feb . 22 . These small , in-person meetings with policy makers are always a beneficial way to improve teamwork and everyone ’ s understanding of policy and planning decisions .
