A

beautiful , windy day at Hurstbourne Country Club set the stage for a record day of golf and scholarship at the 11th annual GLMS Foundation Doctor ’ s Cup .
On Sept . 27 , 2021 we hosted 23 teams , competing for prizes , trophies and the title of Doctor ’ s Cup Champion . As has been done in years past , the 18 th hole hosted a hole-in-one contest , this year sponsored by Bluegrass AutoGroup - Maserati . Bryant Merrick of the Merrick Kemper team took a monumental swing and got himself the day ’ s top prize ! Read more about this huge moment on page 22 .
In addition to this extremely generous and fabulous prize , we also congratulated the following golfers on their overall games with first , second and third place prizes . The first-place team was sponsored by Stock Yards Bank and included Rick Tobe , Tony Simms , Davis Boland and David Clayton . UofL Health Ophthalmology sponsored the team taking home second place and the hybrid Kindred and Crown Services team came in third place . This year ’ s “ Worst Putter Award ” went home with Dan Watkins . This award is sponsored by Dr . Mary Barry , in remembrance of her father , journalist Mike Barry .
Finally , we gathered to celebrate the true reason for the event , awarding scholarships to University of Louisville School of Medicine students . Over the last 11 years , the GLMS Foundation has awarded over $ 250,000 in medical student scholarships , continuing their mission to invest in the future of medicine . This year , the GLMS Foundation awarded $ 30,000 in scholarships to six students . Dr . Toni Ganzel , Dean of the UofL School of Medicine said of the award recipients , “ We have , as usual , a fantastic cohort of student scholarship recipients this year . They percolate among our best and our brightest , both in terms of their academic merit as well as their well-balanced portfolio related to service , leadership and scholarship . We are very , very proud of them .” This year ’ s award recipients were Carter Richardson , Robert Wendroth , Emily O ’ Neill , Emma Ganshirt , Katherine Whitehouse and Austin Taylor .
Thank you to all of our sponsors and businesses who made this event possible ! We appreciate so much your support of this event that helps give back to our future physicians . Next year ’ s Doctor ’ s Cup will take place on Monday , Aug . 22 , 2022 - mark your calendars , and maybe we will make history two years in a row !
