SUICIDE PREVENTION RESOURCES :
TAKING A STAND AGAINST BULLYING
( continued from page 11 ) if we are promoting healing relationships . I try to model healthy relationships ( if even just by being a consistent , caring adult ) with my patients and hope that I can use our relationship to promote healing . I recognize that I am not perfect by any means , and I may have fallen into the drama triangle in some interactions . But I keep coming back the next day and working on improving myself to be the best healer I can . I strive to be supportive , caring and resilient so I can help patients and their families .
We as physicians can both model and teach resilience in our patients . This also helps promote resilience in communities and institutions . Building resilience is so important to counter the negative effects of trauma and to help prevent suicide . Ways we can promote resilience include connecting with and supporting each other ( not only with our patients but also with each other as physicians , as well as our communities ), creating safe spaces , focusing on strengths , validating each others ’ experiences , teaching problem-solving skills , providing and teaching trauma-informed care and improving access to mental health care . Or , in the words of Bill S . Preston , Esquire , “ Be Excellent To Each Other .”
