we read patient charts all day long , look at radiology all day long , look at lab tests . It ’ s not just looking at a pink and purple slide , it ’ s a comprehensive formation from the clinical history , the operation and what the surgeon actually did . It ’ s a lot more complex that what I think is perceived .”
Because she grew up in a large , close knit family , having children of her own was extremely important to her . Soon after returning home from fellowship , Dr . McKee found out she was pregnant with their first child , Paul McKee V , nicknamed “ Five .” Much to their surprise , just 16 months later , the couple welcomed their second child , Lucy . The family also has what they consider a third child — their beloved Bernedoodle puppy , Beasley .
They love to be outside , and the kids are involved in a multitude of sports and activities , keeping them very busy . The family likes to play golf , travel and recently bought a racehorse . At a conference a few years ago , Dr . McKee and her husband visited a winery and sampled wines , giving life to a new hobby .
“ We tried several and one that we liked was a Pride Mountain wine . In 2015 , we went to Pride Mountain Vineyard and did an
excursion out there . We fell in love with the wine culture , the vineyards and all the science behind making wine ,” she said , noting that they are currently working on turning their basement into a wine cellar . “ It ’ s fun to learn about the different grapes and learn about what foods to pair them with .”
Spending time with her husband and children is her favorite part of each day , and she wants to make sure that she spends as much time as possible with them , before her kids get older . This was something instilled from a young age , seeing her father do the same when she was a child . “ My dad exemplified how to balance home and a professional career . He was very , very busy but he always made it home in time for dinner and that ’ s really important to me ,” she said . “ I don ’ t just define myself as a doctor . More importantly , I am a daughter , a wife , and a mom .”
