small group of close friends and family joined Brian Sosnin , DO on a beautiful , sunny May 23 rd to celebrate his installation as the 129 th President of GLMS . The small , in-person ceremony was held at Lynn Family Stadium , home to professional soccer teams Racing Louisville FC and Louisville City FC . In true pandemic fashion , guests wore masks and physically distanced throughout the event while limited GLMS staff broadcast the event to our full membership through Facebook Live , allowing us to have a hybrid celebration for the first time .
During his presidential address , Dr . Sosnin emphasized the importance of encouraging patients to get their COVID-19 vaccines through effective , personalized communication .
“ I look for opportunities to share with them why getting the vaccine is the right thing to do ,” he said . “ We must speak to our patients and encourage them to get vaccinated and we must not let up now . Let ’ s double down and help us finish this race strong .”
Dr . Sosnin also plans to focus on physician leadership development and will provide opportunities for all physicians to grow both professionally and personally . Another vitally important theme for this year is improving mental health .
“ Our patients need it , we need it , and our country needs it . We will stand on the shoulders of giants as we look upon the horizon and create a better and healthier future ,” he said . “ We sincerely hope you will join us in our vulnerability and humility as we stretch and grow to become wiser and healthier so we can better serve our patients .”
The 2021 Richard Spear , MD , Memorial Essay Contest winners were also announced . Dr . Valerie Briones-Pryor won in the Practicing / Life category and Liz Smith won in the In-Training / Student category . See pages 6-9 of this issue to read their submissions .
