the five that you ’ re most passionate about . Now , highlight the one thing that is supreme , the one thing that you do that makes time just melt away . Richard calls this your main gift . It ’ s the golden thread . Finally , write that gift down on a sticky note , and put it on your bathroom mirror so you see it every day . Once you know your gift , that can guide your life meaning . Then the final step is to activate it , to find an outlet to share your gift . For example , volunteering is a sure way to share your gift . We know that people who volunteer have a lower BMI , lower rates of heart disease and in some cases , lower health care costs . Making time to find your purpose will not only help you live longer , but it will also help you to live better . 3
Aristotle famously said , “ Pleasure in the job puts perfection in the work .” If we can build our teams around purpose and passion , we can build teams that thrive instead of survive .
As I sign off as your GLMS President , I want all of you to know , my colleagues and friends , that it has truly been an honor and privilege to serve you this year . Being surrounded by amazing and wonderful people made this role so much easier , enjoyable and rewarding . Every one of the GLMS Staff , Executive Officers , Board of Governors and the Foundation were all a blessing to work with . It is very humbling to be around so many deeply caring and fully committed people who are determined to make good things happen .
There have been a lot of ups and downs for everyone over the past year . Over the course of this past year , I have started seeing more hope and light in our current situation and in our future . I see more people experiencing less turmoil and finding more peace . I see many physicians leading themselves and one another to healthier and happier places . I recognize and appreciate everyone in our organization . I would like to mention a few people specifically who have been especially kind and helpful to me this year : Dr . Monalisa Tailor , Dr . Valerie Briones-Pryor , Dr . Mary Barry , Bert Guinn , Amanda Hall , Stephanie Woods , Jessica Williams , Kathryn Vance , Danielle Deferraro and my wife , Lisa .
