IN REMEMBRANCE

exam in general and / or vascular surgery . He was a voracious reader and always had a penchant for detail and trivia both in medicine and otherwise ( he always won Trivial Pursuit , actually knowing the color of a scallop ’ s eyes ).
Clinically , my favorite time with Glenn was being in the operating room with him . It was here that Glenn ’ s technical skills were exemplary . He had the ability to focus and maintain concentration through long hours of dissection and blood vessel reconstruction . Sometimes vascular surgery could be harrowing ( e . g ., ruptured aortic aneurysm ). Glenn always maintained a calm and reassuring demeanor which served to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the whole team while dealing with a crisis . We frequently consulted each other and assisted each other with difficult operations as he was always willing to help in all aspects of patient care .
Over the course of the last 30-40 years , the practice of medicine has evolved considerably as evidenced by hard copy paper charting replaced by electronic medical records ( God forbid ). Vascular surgery is no exception as the technology rapidly advanced from
open procedures with attendant long hospital stays to minimally invasive as outpatients . Glenn eagerly dove into these changes and became extremely proficient in both the newer operative techniques as well as EMRs .
In 2018 , Glenn left Norton Vascular Associates and joined Norton Brownsboro Hospital Wound Healing Center where he continued to practice wound care up to and including the day he died . For some doctors , practicing medicine is a rewarding and honorable profession , but I believe that for Glenn it was a calling and a lifetime career . I don ’ t think Glenn could ever see himself as “ retired ” as his love of medicine and patient care was in his blood and part of his soul .
I don ’ t know how one sums up a 46-year friendship / partnership . I do know that I shall always be grateful for his patience , mentoring and friendship . I also know that I am but one of a long list of people who shall miss him so . -Thomas W . Klamer , MD
