strategies to advance health equity among all subgroups . Clearly improving health equity takes more than doctors , hospitals and other providers opening equally to all people regardless of race , socioeconomic status ( aka insurance status ) or cultural background . This takes community efforts in housing , education , employment , transportation and physical safety . That requires a seismic cultural and political shift — something that may be done incrementally to ensure sustainability . The house of medicine has been on that journey . PCORI will help fund studies to measure reductions in health disparities , while presenting its findings to those social engineers within other government and private sectors .
PCORI has moved from a focus on studies of comparative effectiveness on procedures and processes in health care , to taking on the funding to impacting health disparities and then to move on to advancing health equity — the ultimate Moon Shot in medicine .
