business side of medicine , sometimes the outcome is not what you expect . Due to business and financial reasons , Brian and I decided to close the practice . It was devastating to us , our staff and to the many patients we had served for all those years .
Brian moved on to navigate an environment he had yet to experience – the corporate world of hospital medicine . It was a journey of personal growth and enlightenment . Once again , Brian showed his stamina and ability to be an overcomer . I believe overcomers are heroes . The late great actor Christopher Reeve once said , “ A hero is someone who in spite of weakness , doubt , or not always knowing the answers , goes ahead and overcomes anyway .” Brian did just that .
He moved on to return to his heartfelt need to help others , especially the underprivileged . Shawnee Christian Healthcare Center in West Louisville was just the place . There he met amazing people and saw the profound needs of the community .
He once again applied the principles of management he had learned in private practice . The concept of “ give a man a fish and he will eat for a day , teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime ” is one Brian believes in and fully embraces . Many people in the Shawnee neighborhood wanted to know how to take better care of themselves and live longer . Brian offered them excellent health care and education for a healthier lifestyle . He believes life is a continuum of gaining knowledge and engaging in self-growth .
outcomes . The patients of Shawnee were thankful and often told him so . However , his time there was only temporary as he was already obligated to work for Baptist Health providing support for the needs of various urgent care offices around the area before moving into his current practice at Baptist Health LaGrange , Kentucky .
The Greater Louisville Medical Society has experienced great leadership in the past , and Brian has large shoes to fill . However , I know him . I have worked with and for him . I have seen him grow spiritually , mentally and emotionally over the past 15 years that I have been honored to be called his wife . I have often referred to him as my “ fox hole buddy ” as we have weathered some serious storms in our life together .
Thank you for giving him this opportunity to serve the needs of the medical community as well as the community around us . Brian will be a great leader and will lead GLMS with integrity , honor and hope . A great leader is one who serves . A great leader is a person who means what they say and says what they mean . Brian is that kind of a leader . Lisa Sosnin , BSN , RN is the wife of GLMS President , Dr . Brian Sosnin
