HOW OUR DIFFERENCES MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Diversity . Merriam Webster defines this as “ the condition of having or being composed of differing elements .” But what does diversity really mean and how does it influence medicine ?
In this issue , we will examine a variety of such elements : race , age , socioeconomic status , gender and more . They impact every single part of who we are and what we do . Recognizing and respecting these differences is crucial to both excellent medical education and good patient care .
We want to highlight the diversity of physicians in our community , and examine the burden of health care inequalities as well . Louisville is a melting pot for so many different cultures , which our medical professionals represent . After a tumultuous 2020 , there is no time like the present to highlight and celebrate the diverse population that makes our physician community so incredible . We hope that this issue not only educates , but also inspires us to rededicate ourselves to making our home a more diverse , inclusive and just health care community .
