IN REMEMBRANCE IN REMEMBRANCE: C. MILTON YOUNG, MD NOVEMBER 13, 1930 - JANUARY 14, 2020 Milton was the son of Dr C. Milton Young, Jr., a graduate of Meharry Medical College, who practiced urology in Louisville. His mother, Hortense, if I am not mistaken, was the first female African American graduate of the University of Louisville School of Law. Milton was the first African American to attend the University of Louisville as an undergraduate. Before entering medical school, he was the first emergency medical technician. He chose rheumatology and trained under David Neustadt, MD at Jewish Hospital and St. Joseph’s Infirmary. Milton and I became colleagues and friends during his 40 years of practice. I would help him with cardiology problem cases in my office and at Red Cross and Jewish Hospital. He was meticulous in asking for help in all complex cases, and his patients prospered because of his concern for them. Pain is the presenting symptom for virtually every rheumatology patient. From the beginning and throughout his career, Milton recognized his role and responsibility in pain management which I observed he did with great success. - Morris Weiss, MD, FACP, FACC Dr. Young was a GLMS member for 58 years. 32 LOUISVILLE MEDICINE
