GLMS ALLIANCE NEWS AUTHOR Debi McDonald The GLMS Alliance exists to promote support among physician families and better the health and wellness of our community through supporting local charities. Together we live a life unique to the challenges and rewards of being a physician family. If you are a physician or the spouse/child/parent of a physician, please JOIN US! For more information, visit the Alliance link on the GLMS.org website. I n the summer of 2019, five members of the GLMS Alliance went on a medical mission trip to Uganda. When we returned, we escorted a child named Logose back to the US where she was to have heart surgery at Norton Chil- dren’s Hospital, via a program in conjunction with Healing the Children/KY. She became very dear to her escorts and her Louisville host, GLMS Alliance member Rebecca Dixon. Logose returned with her newly patched heart to Ugan- da in late August. We are happy to report she is doing great! Her father came to have a check-up at the Ugandan children’s hospital that sponsored her, Whisper’s Magical Children’s Hospital. The hospital graciously sent us photos and videos of her visit. She can now run and play like a normal, healthy five-year-old and attend school with other children; things that would be impossible due to the danger of overexertion and infection prior to her surgery. We hope to be able to catch up with her through the years on return trips to Uganda. JANUARY 2020 27
