WEAR THE WHITE COAT “This was quite a privilege. I’ve never seen anyone with as much compassion as this gentleman, Dr. Railey. His office works like a well- oiled machine. It seems seamless to me. I’ve had some great doctors in my life but Dr. Railey is there as a friend. Sometimes he has to say things that are tough to hear like, ‘You need to quit smoking,’ or ‘You need to lose a little weight,’ as we all do. But, he says it as a friend.” - Sumner “Ty” Adams (Kinkade-Adams Design) – Shadowed Dr. James Railey, Internist "The ability to share my day with my Wear the White Coat participant helped me to reaffirm my reasons for pursuing medicine and why I get so much enjoyment from it. I am so humbled to be able to do what I am able to do daily." - Dr. James Railey “Everything I saw was so intriguing. Dr. McKee and her team are absolutely amazing. Their dedication to getting the right diagnosis is so impressive." - Erin Haynes Reed (ARGI Financial) – Shadowed Dr. Susan McKee, Pathologist "When Paul, my husband, came to me and told me he was going to participate in this program, I knew I really wanted to do this. I want to educate people on what goes on behind closed doors in a pathology office. Although we don’t interact with patients every day or have a lot of insurance issues, we run a lab and work with other physicians and their patients to give the correct diagnosis every day." - Dr. Susan McKee “I want to point out the level of organized chaos that I witnessed. You’d see people walking quickly and they would gather around these whiteboards to talk about each surgery. Everyone knew where they were going and respected each other. There was a level of calm, respect and organization in the face of some really serious situations.” - State Representative Nima Kilkarni – Shadowed Dr. Alex Cravanas, Anesthesiologist "The experience is an intimate way to learn about individuals shaping the future of our community and how physicians can partner with them to reach common goals." - Dr. Alex Cravanas “It was a very enjoyable, educational day. Dr. Higgins’ level of clinical care is fantastic. Even though it was a fast-paced day to me, he was able to give personal care to each patient. He was fully present. Dr. Higgins and his assistant are very good at helping patients understand what some of their options are. This allowed patients to make better decisions right there with the physician. I’m very grateful to Dr. Higgins and GLMS for making this day possible.” - Tink Guthrie (Archdiocese of Louisville) – Shadowed Dr. Thomas Higgins, Jr., Otolaryngologist OCTOBER 2019 7
