DR. WHO MEMBER SPOTLIGHT JAMIE LOVELESS, MD, & MEREDITH LOVELESS, MD AUTHOR Aaron Burch M ozzaPi, a lunchtime pizza place out on La Grange Road, is closing shop for the day. The firewood oven is cooling down, and there are no patrons left other than Drs. Jamie and Meredith Loveless. Friends of the owners, the Loveless’ have been given the ‘okay’ to stay a little past closing time and sit for an interview with Louisville Medicine. It’s just after 2 p.m. The sun is still shining through the tall windows, and classic rock is playing softly from the speakers. Jamie and Meredith Loveless happily trade off stories from their lives, which have been conjoined for nearly three decades. Jamie Loveless, MD, is in private practice at Dermatology Asso- ciates, PSC. He’s one of six partners in the office, and sees patients needing all forms of dermatology care. He works often with skin cancer diagnosis and treatment, acne and cosmetic dermatology. Meredith Loveless, MD, FACOG, spent the first 15 years of her career as a pediatric gynecologist during a time where that specialty was exceedingly rare. Just this year, she was given the opportunity to be Chief Medical Officer of CGS Administrators, LLC, Kentucky and Ohio (Jurisdiction 15 Medicare Administrative Contractor) region. This region oversees 48,500 physicians and almost 2 million fee-for-service beneficiaries. The couple has three children. Clay and Colin are their oldest, twin 15-year-old boys. Alexis is the younger sister by three years. Despite tough schedules, the Loveless’ have built a loving home in Louisville since 2009, along with a pair of wildly different and successful medical careers. Even though it may seem long ago, there was a time when Jamie and Meredith didn’t know each other. Jamie grew up in Tallahassee, Fla. His father, Doug Loveless, was 38 LOUISVILLE MEDICINE a dentist and a big outdoorsman. Jamie’s still a decent shot from those years of practice. “If he goes with a new hunting group, Jamie usually gets invited back,” Meredith said proudly. Meredith was born in Miami but moved to Connecticut at 10-years-old. Her dad served in the 82 nd Airborne and then started BlackHorse Garage and Automotive Restoration Company with Meredith’s brother. Her mom was one of the original Pan-Am flight attendants and would take Meredith flying sometimes when there were extended layovers in beautiful and interesting cities. Interests in science brought both Jamie and Meredith to college at Auburn University. Jamie was studying bio-chemistry, while Mer- edith started college as pre-veterinarian before moving to pre-med. “We met when I was the Pre-Med Club President,” Jamie re- membered. “The club was pretty useful. It had avenues for students to shadow and learn more about medicine. We raised money and even had a concert once.” “Jamie and I started studying together and were dating not long after. I’m grateful we met before med school, because I don’t know how we would have afterwards. We were so busy. I don’t know how anyone finds time to date in medical school,” Meredith said. The couple more than earned their degrees from Auburn. In 1996, Jamie graduated Magna Cum Laude, and Meredith was close behind with Cum Laude distinction. “I tell people that, to me, every test was a midterm,” Jamie explained. “Every single one felt like a final. We’d go to class and then study four or five hours a day. It was tough.” “But,” he said brightly, “there were times immediately after the tests where we simply didn’t have anything to study.” “We were close to the gulf, so when those times came around, we’d relax and go to the beach,” Meredith added.
