GLMS Signature Events WEAR THE WHITE COAT EXPERIENCE This allowed 20 community leaders the opportunity to see a day in the life of our physician members, giving them a better under- standing of the role physicians play in our community. We can work with the insurance companies on your behalf. GLMS can intervene on your behalf regarding issues with commer- cial insurance payers through one of our most utilized services: Hassle Reporting. Providers can report ongoing trends with payers, and we will work directly with them to get you the money you deserve. Past reported hassles have included inappropriate bun- dling of services, long hold times and lack of payer response and follow-up. As these issues are not typically isolated occurrences, GLMS is able to monitor trends in the community and take action directly with the insurance companies as a trend arises, saving you from having to report future hassles. On average, hassle reports that we resolved have resulted in savings of approximately $3,520 for each physician case. In 2019, GLMS was able to get back over $158,000 in unpaid claims to our physicians, with one case recovering over $100,000 alone. LEGISLATIVE RECEPTION This year’s event welcomed five Metro Council members and four State Representatives, allowing our members to discuss important health care policies in a casual setting. PRESIDENTS’ CELEBRATION In May, we celebrated the installation of Dr. Frank Burns as the 127th President of GLMS at the Speed Art Museum. We also said thank you to outgoing President Dr. Wayne Tuckson for a year of tremendous success. EQUIPPING PHYSICIANS THROUGH TRANSITION New this year, these seminars allowed us to partner with area businesses to provide resources on various types of transitions physicians may experience during their career. These seminars covered topics such as contract negotiation, buy-sell agreements, preparing for retirement, and many other transitions they may experience professionally. WITH YOUR GLMS MEMBERSHIP. KMA Delegation GLMS Accolades Each fall, GLMS sends members to the KMA Delegation at the KMA Annual Meeting. The GLMS representatives for the KMA Delegation include active and life members; one-third are elected, one-third are volunteers, and one-third are appointed, according to GLMS bylaws. Delegates are afforded the opportunity to gain insight into local organized medicine’s approach to influencing Kentucky’s legislative process on issues that affect physicians and patients. At the 2019 Annual Meeting, 42 delegates attended on behalf of GLMS. The KMA House of Delegates approved 13 resolutions submitted by GLMS. Members of the 2020 KMA Delegation will begin meeting again this summer, so please reach out if you are interested in serving on this committee. The American Association of Medical Society Executives (AAMSE) awarded GLMS with a 2019 Profiles of Excellence Award in the Membership category for “Engaging and Investing in the Future of Organized Medicine.” This includes collaboration with the Uni- versity of Louisville through the White Coat Ceremony, the annual Specialty Speed Networking event, New Resident Orientation and more. This is GLMS’s third AAMSE award since 2018. Louisville Business First recognized GLMS as one of the 45 “Best Places to Work” in our city. The Business First program surveys employees about workplace policies, office conditions, management styles, employee satisfaction, benefits and morale. This is GLMS’s second time to receive this award. 2020 ANNUAL REPORT
