WEAR THE WHITE COAT WEAR THE WHITE COAT 2018 T he 2018 Wear the White Coat Experience came to a close at the Pigment Gallery in the Mellwood Arts and Entertainment Center on Wednesday, November 7. This award-winning GLMS event allowed physicians and community leaders to cross paths in exciting ways, then discuss their experiences at a Post-Op Dinner. What follows are excerpts from the testimonials told over dinner. They’re filled with joy, heartache and compassion. We’re honored to have these professionals speak about our program. Michael Rabkin, Director of Communications at Passport Health Plan Shadowed Dr. Valerie Briones-Pryor, KentuckyOne Health Hospital Medicine Associates "There was so much going on, it was like a tornado around the patient. The way that Dr. Val spoke to the patient, and the way they were able to respond amidst everything that was going on, that’s what I think of when I think of the work she does. When you’re lying in that bed in the hospital, you trust whoever is coming in. When they see Dr. Val, they know she’s trying to bring everything together for them. I’m going to encourage everyone I know to take part in this program. It’s something I’ll never forget, and an incredible service GLMS provides. I think this is something that should be offered to everybody, every profession and every age. Thank you all at GLMS and all the doctors who participated." Rick Green, Courier Journal Editor and USA Today Network Midwest Regional Editor Shadowed Dr. Rodica Turcu, UofL Physicians - Neonatal "I got to see guardian angels come to life, taking care of some of the most vulnerable little infants. I wondered so many times how they’re even still alive. It was a very, very humbling experience. It put into perspective the fantastic care in this town. I went back to my newsroom inspired to work harder for people without a voice. That’s a lesson that will stick with me forever. Thank you for that." Deena Kinkaid Adams, Executive Director of the American Lung Association Shadowed Dr. Jeff Tuvlin, KentuckyOne Health Gastroenterology Associates "Having been on the receiving end of the procedures I witnessed, it’s really so meaningful to know the people who are taking care of you really care about you. I saw compassion with the patient before and with the family after. It was a most interesting day. I saw a lot of professional behavior, a lot of compassion and a lot of care." Karen Wilhite, Adecco USA Regional Vice President Shadowed Dr. Sean Francis, UofL Physicians - Urogynecology "It was amazing to watch the patient’s perspective and their family, how they look at the physicians prior to the procedure, the warmth in their eyes. They’re trusting this individual to take care of them. I got to see a surgery I personally had to go through, and it was quite amazing." 14 LOUISVILLE MEDICINE
