versity of Louisville as an assistant professor, and they moved to
the city in 2012.
Louisville seemed a fantastic fit from a career perspective, but
the couple left their support system of family and friends during a
trying time. Josh’s father passed away, and the couple learned they
would struggle to have children.
“We moved forward and decided to pursue domestic adoption
of a newborn,” said Dr. Bullock. “We started the process in 2015
and were matched in 2016. It’s a complex emotional area. My hus-
band and I are analytical people, and there were lots of feelings to
contend with.” The couple welcomed their son, Gus, in 2016 and
he just recently turned two.
“Our lives today center around our family, our relationships with
friends, going hiking, going to concerts. It’s pretty much Louisville
in a nutshell,” she said. “I’ve been getting more involved with our

church, Sojourn, and I’m teaching there. It’s a nice combination of
where I am maturity-wise and teaching something else I’m pas-
sionate about. I’m trying to invest in relationships more. Keeping
myself a well-rounded person is the challenge.”
With a young son, a loving husband, an engaging specialty and a
strong web of friendships, Dr. Bullock has found a new chapter of her
life in Louisville. Although she’s been through challenges impossible
to anticipate, Dr. Bullock has found strength within herself, through
faith and family, that has allowed new perspectives to emerge.
