rank Burns, MD is a
1986 graduate of the
University of Missouri
in Columbia, Missou-
ri. He completed an
internship with the Department
of Internal Medicine at the Uni-
versity of Louisville followed by
a two-year post-doctoral research
fellowship with the Department
of Ophthalmology. He then com-
pleted a residency in Ophthal-
mology at the University of Lou-
isville prior to entering private
practice in 1992. He established
his own solo practice of ophthalmology in 1996 and continues
as a solo practitioner to this day. His practice focuses on cataract
surgery, LASIK, and the medical care of conditions such as diabetes,
glaucoma and macular degeneration.
Dr. Burns is actively involved in several professional societies
and is currently the Vice President of the Greater Louisville Medical
Society (GLMS) and President-Elect of the Kentucky Academy
of Eye Physicians and Surgeons (KAEPS). He is very involved in
legislative activities on a local, state and national level. He is the
current Chair of the GLMS Policy and Advocacy Team, the Leg-
islative Chair of KAEPS and is a member of the Kentucky Medical
Association Commission on Legislative and Political Advocacy. He
has been recently appointed to the Government Relations Commit-
tee of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. He
makes frequent trips to both Frankfort, KY and Washington, DC to
meet with our legislators in order to help improve the quality and
delivery of health care to all patients. Dr. Burns is married to his
fellow medical school classmate and pathologist, Carolyn Burns,
MD. They have two adult children, Meghan and Chris.
