was also pretty lonely,” she said. “But, I loved being there. I wouldn’t
change it for anything.”
Coming back to America and to Louisville, Dr. Abrams spent
four years at UofL School of Medicine and found her love of Pediatrics during her third year rotation, and did her residency at the
Children’s Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio.
“After residency I worked at the Mt. Auburn Health Center there
in Cincinnati for two years,” said Dr. Abrams. “I was the only pediatrician at that health clinic, and it was very interesting, almost like
a mini-fellowship in adolescent medicine. I saw a lot of pregnant
teenagers, boys and girls with STDs, low weight babies. It taught
me a lot.”
Upon returning to Louisville in 1989, Dr. Abrams was welcomed
into the Kaplan Barron Pediatric Group, the same doctors’ office she
had gone to for care as a child. “That’s what I wanted. The practice has
been around for 60 years, and I’ve been there for 27 now. I’m taking
care of my patients’ children now, which is really cool,” she said.
Back in Louisville, Dr. Abrams reconnected with Dr. Jeff Glazer,
a Louisville gynecologist, who had been a grade school friend at
the Jewish Community Center of Louisville. The two were married
in 1991 and have three children, Nicholas, Mallory and Andrea.
Dr. Abrams and her children took up horseback riding when the
kids were in elementary school, and she still loves it today. “I took
lessons once a week when I w
