GLMS ALLIANCE ANNUAL REPORT 2016-2017
This year has been both wonderful and inspiring, and I am proud of the Alliance’ s accomplishments. Every year is a year of new beginnings as well as time to renew dormant friendships. Our Alliance programs this year were designed to be both fun and informative and to encourage support among doctors’ families.
The Alliance’ s first event was an evening meeting at Dr. Bob and Angie DeWeese’ s home on September 21. We met with old friends and introduced new members to our group.
On September 26, we enjoyed the GLMS Foundation Scholarship Golf Outing at the Hurstbourne Country Club. The GLMSA donated a $ 300 basket for the auction, sponsored a hole and helped give a GLMS Foundation scholarship of $ 5,000 to a U of L medical student, Katelynn C. Bachman.
On October 25, a fashion show was held at The University Club on U of L campus. There was a short general meeting, lunch and a fashion show showing fall clothes from Koi Gallery and Rodes For Him & Her.
In October and November, the GLMS Alliance collected for the Holiday Sharing Card, an annual endeavor. Donations may be directed to any of Kentucky’ s medical schools or to the University
of Pikeville Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine. A Holiday Card was sent to GLMS Alliance members with the names of those that donated to the KMA Alliance Foundation. The grand total given out to the medical schools this past year was $ 6,625. The University of Kentucky Medical School received $ 3,275, the University of Louisville Medical School received $ 2,385, and the University of Pikeville Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine received $ 1,325.
On November 15 th, we met at Gilda’ s Club, the community organization for people living with cancer. Their motto is“ Living with cancer is not a choice. How you live with it is.” We were told at our meeting that Gilda’ s Club ensures that no one ever walks a cancer journey alone. The GLMSA gave a donation to the Club.
Our December holiday meeting was quite delicious. At Cooking at the Cottage, Chef Lelia Gentile, of Farmers’ Market fame, provided an outstanding cooking demonstration. We went home with great recipes to try.
In February, our meeting was at Pinot’ s Palette, where everyone had great fun, with painting tips from an instructor. Everyone was pleased and happy with the outcome.
On March 30, for Doctors’ Day, we donated to SOS in honor of our retired physicians. The Alliance sent a token of appreciation to the GLMS Board for all their kind support this year.
