IN REMEMBRANCE WILLIAM JOULE, MD 1930-2015 I t is with great sadness that I write of the death of my radiology associate, Dr. Bill Joule, on May 19, 2015. I joined Dr. John Watts and Dr. Bill Joule in the practice of radiology at St. Anthony Hospital January 1970. Physicians and medical personnel respected Bill for his dedication and expertise in radiology. As our practice grew, we incorporated additional radiologists including Doctors John McLane, Peter Wayne, Anthony Duncan and Jeri Irwin. As most hospitals and physicians elected to establish satellite centers and office practices in outlying areas, we developed an office practice on DuPont Circle known as Diagnostic Medical Imaging Associates (DMIA). After St. Anthony Hospital was sold to Vencor in 1995, Dr. Joule continued his radiology practice at the Veterans Hospital in Louisville in 1989 and retired from there in 1995. Bill Joule, a kind, generous, soft spoken man, always thought of others first. He will be greatly missed. May he rest in peace. - Jay Whelan MD 12 LOUISVILLE MEDICINE I first met Bill Joule when I joined the group at St. Anthony Hospital as a young, green associate in 1982. I remember his kindness to me, and to others. All of the radiology technologists loved him. Many would come back to visit him over the years as he was sincerely interested in them, and their families. Later, I was blessed to have Bill become a member of my family when he married my sister, JoAnn. They spent many happy years and traveled to destinations around the world. An avid reader, Bill amassed a rather impressive library. There was rarely a topic that he could not intelligently discuss. He developed a deep friendship with my father, Dr. William Petty. Most older colleagues will remember my father as he practiced medicine in Louisville for many years. No one in the family grieved more than Bill when my dad passed away in 2006. Bill was a rare and special man, a true gentleman. He died just shy of his 85th birthday on May 19, 2015. He will be greatly missed. - Jeri Irwin, MD
