015-16 has been a time of personal and professional growth for the
physicians of the Greater Louisville Medical Society. While the practice
of medicine has changed in numerous and unexpected ways, our
doctors have risen to the challenge by maintaining a passionate commitment
to the improvement of health care, educating physicians-to-be, and advocating
strongly for their patients and for the practice of medicine.
Having the means to care for patients properly is an objective which remains
at the forefront of each project GLMS and its physicians undertake. We will,
continue to, follow our mission which is: work to promote the science, art
and profession of medicine; protect the integrity of the patient-physician
relationship; advocate for the health and well-being of the community; and
unite physicians, regardless of practice setting, to achieve these ends.
To help those for whom we care so deeply, GLMS has implemented several
versatile initiatives to supply our physicians with new tools in the fight for
better health care in Louisville and throughout the state. And, just as important
are the programs already in place. Our traditions have made GLMS what it
is today. In both circumstances, our physicians have been impressive and
thoughtful. They have volunteered their time and abilities in so many ways
to guide Louisville’s health care ecosystem towards a brighter future.
Muhammad Ali once said, “Service to others is the rent you pay for your
room here on earth.” The physicians who make up GLMS continue to give that
service in graceful and surprising ways. Read on, as we celebrate a monumental
year for the Greater Louisville Medical Society.
CAPTAINS OF THE SHIP
On May 31, 2015, leadership of GLMS passed from outgoing President Bruce
Scott, MD, to incoming President Robert (Bob) Couch, MD, MBA, at the
annual Presidents’ Celebration held in the beautiful Muhammad Ali Center
overlooking the Ohio River.
Dr. Couch, who selected the location, explained his choice of venue as
