Ragland, MD, At-Large Board Member Michael Ostapchuk, MD Richard “Dick” Wolf, MD David Bourne, MD On September 23, the GLMS Foundation’s third annual Scholarship Golf Tournament was held at Hurstbourne Country Club, raising $20,000 for medical students at the University of Louisville School of Medicine. Linda H. Gleis, MD, Chair of the GLMS Foundation Scholarship Committee presented awards of $5,000 to the winners. Each winner was elected based on outstanding academics and community service. The 4th annual GLMS Physician Leadership Course was hosted on October 5, titled “Leading Through Chaos and Complexity,” a timely subject facilitated by an expert instructor from International Photo by Mickie Winters On Mission: To Promote the science, Art and profession of medicine GLMS Board Chair Russell A. Williams, MD, has been a tireless promoter of GLMS initiatives as well as a marvelous example to the community of how science, art and professionalism should blend together within a physician. He has selflessly volunteered his time to numerous endeavors over the years, serving GLMS with dignity and grace. On Mission: To Promote the science, Art and profession of medicine Rob Zaring, MD, MMM, has been instrumental in developing the business skills of the medical community of Louisville. Dr. Zaring works as the chair of the Leadership and Development Committee, GLMS Secretary and as an alternate delegate for the AMA. He contributed as a guest speaker for the University of Louisville’s Residents in Business program. He’s also been essential in creating the GLMS Leadership Development Program. Leadership Associates. The GLMS Leadership and Program Development Committee invited hand-picked University of Louisville residents, all first and second year practicing physicians, as well as current GLMS board and committee members, with simultaneous goals of developing physician leaders, networking, and exchanging ideas among young and seasoned physicians. GLMS’s third annual Wear the White Coat program gave 21 prominent local leaders in business, government and media the opportunity to go behind-the-scenes during the month of October to learn what is involved in the practice of medicine. Because the times are changing, this program does a great service to local physicians by providing local policy and opinion makers an unprecedented perspective. State Sen. Julie Denton, who shadowed Dr. John David Kolter, said “there are really some implications to the things we do in Frankfort as to what [physicians] do and how many patients they can see a day and their accessibility to patients.
