Relief in Kenya Erik Rasmussen, MD A row of patients sat patiently on a bench in the small waiting room. Flies glided from person to person amid the stifling heat, but they hardly seemed to notice. Many had made over a day’s journey to see our surgical team in this small facility in Migori, Kenya. We had traveled all the way from Louisville, Kentucky to this populous east African nation in order to aid a woefully medically underserved population. Our journey began in Louisville, where a pediatric surgery and an otolaryngology team were recruited for a week long medical trip to Kenya. Kenya Relief, the host organization, is a faith-based group which operates in Migori, Kenya. They have a small medical facility which hosts a new me X
