LOS ANGELES FIRM INC MAGAZINE
What would you say to up and coming designers that look up to designers like yourself
and are looking for a way into this seemingly
impossible industry to break into? Work
for someone else and work hard. You
don’t know everything - in fact, consider
that you don’t know anything! Jewelry is
a craft, a trade, a legacy business. I am
proud to do what I do because fine craftsmanship is becoming a lost art. Everyday
I learn from the brilliant craftsman employed by my father. My advice is study
under someone you respect. Be a sponge
and soak up everything they can teach
you. Don’t expect that you can just go out
there and start a brand without learning
from someone who already knows how to
do it. Especially in an industry that seems
impossible to break into, working hard will
help you get your foot in the door.
How does it feel to get all of this attention as a designer who is actually
recognized for amazing pieces? That
question made me pause, I don’t
see it that way - I’m just doing what
I do. But thank you! It feels great! I
am very passionate about my work.
I am a passionate maker. Nothing
tickles me more than someone falling in love with something I created,
someone discovering a one of a
kind piece and getting a sense that
it was made for them. That’s where
it’s at. That’s what it’s all about.
If you had to guess how many pieces would
you credit to yourself for designing? 100+
in four years. I design a minimum of 25
pieces per collection and have 3 collections live and for sale, as well as 2
collections I’ve retired.

Out of all of those piece which one would
stand out more so than other’s? My Star-
dust necklace stands out for sure. It’s
my number one seller and a personal
favorite. It’s been featured in local and
national press. It’s available at the Neon
Museum in Las Vegas, representing the
Stardust sign that they’ve preserved.
This means a lot to me because as I
kid, I used to jump the fence to take
photographs of all the old Las Vegas
signs. They turned the sign graveyard
into a museum and my Stardust jewelry
fit in perfectly there. I made a version of
the Stardust Necklace for my mom one
Christmas in 14kt gold and diamonds - It
was a bit too long for her and so I took a
single star off it that I wear myself. It was
also the way my partner and I met. He
creates abstract paintings that represent old Vegas signs and he decided the
piece was “so him” that he had to meet
me. It’s a pivotal piece of jewelry in my
life, for sure.
