. Gatsby: the man behind the mirage.
About 7 o’clock every Saturday night one can expect to find east egg, long island at ghost town. Except for one house. Light from top to bottom and pact to the brim with people. A massive party takes place but the only person who isn’t having the time of their life is the host himself. A young man in his late 20’s with a mysterious look in his eyes stands on his balcony and watches. This man is of course Mr jay Gatsby. I had the opportunity to sit down with Mr. Gatsby and the conversation that fallowed did not disappoint. We greeted each other on a sunny veranda overlooking the long island sound. Gatsby sat at a table reading the wall street journal. He wore a casual blue blazer over top a white collared shirt, and kaky pants. When he saw me enter he quickly stood and we shook my hand firmly. As we state we began to talk about his life, “how did the war effect your life”? I asked not having been old enough to enlist. “I must admit before the war I was quit liberal, I spent the bloc of my late mother and fathers fortune vacationing in southern Europe and Greece, and then I got drafted old sport and things changed quickly. I was deployed in Europe where the fighting was thick it just changed something in me my friend” he said “If you spent most of you family’s money how did you support yourself after the conflict?”
“well ill tell you old sport, I still had a small deal of money felt over from some my art work. I do a small deal of painting and some of my prints go for a good deal of money, I split the money in two parts, the half I gave to a construction company in Florida. They did very well and ended up building most of the city of Tampa. The other half I invested in a ship building company who make some of the most sought after sailing vessels in the world.” At this I sat back in my chair astonished that one man could have so much luck. “then what brought you to new York”? After a long pause he spoke “there is something here that I long for very much, something I have not yet achieved but soon my friend I will not have to agonies over it. He did say anything else on the topic he just went in to much detail on extraordinary architecture of the house. “it was built in the late 17th century and shipping tycoon was trying to replicate a palace in France unfortunately the chap died before it was finished and never lived here.”
