The Handbook makes it clear, according to the Wiesenthal Center, that “Hamas actually desires the destruction of homes and the civilian infrastructure, knowing it will sow the seeds of hatred for the IDF and support their fighters.”

But don’t think we here at home are safe from such vituperation. On August 9 in North Miami Beach, 60-year-old Rabbi Joseph Raksin was visiting his daughter and grandchildren. As he walked to synagogue later, the New York rabbi was gunned down in broad daylight in the Southern city. Miami police are still searching for the gunmen.

And Hollywood, too, is seeing the spread of hate. A number of stars have co-signed a petition “condemning Israel for committing genocide” and in support of the Palestinian

cause. Academy Award winner Javier Bardem and his wife Penelope Cruz signed the statement along with over 100 other celebrities. In Hollywood these days, it seems that Israel is the villain today. We doubt these stars would be so enamored of the Muslim cause if it arrived in the United States. Hollywood without Jews? Those gorgeous faces hidden behind heavy veils? Oh, and how about the taxes? And music? We could go on…

Nice news wind-up. An Israeli physicist has been elected to the oldest, most elite society in the United States. Professor Eshel Ben-Jacob, it was announced last month,

has been named to the American Philosophical Society, the oldest learned society in the United States. He is the only non-American of the 33 new members. Ben-Jacob is a professor of physics and astronomy and holds the Maguy-Glass Chair of Complex Systems in the Raymond and Beverly Sachler School of Physics and Astronomy and the Sagol School of Neuroscience at Tel Aviv University. The society was founded by Benjamin Franklin and included such members as Charles Darwin, Louis Pasteur and Albert Einstein. Ben Jacob also is an adjunct professor at Rice University in Texas.
