The picture from Europe is not a pretty one, sad to say. While violence may be slowing down in Israel, actually in a suspended cease fire, and the Palestinians have decided that perhaps..perhaps…peace and quiet may be a good thing for a while, activity is heating up in Britain. Matter of fact, according to one reporter, the UK press is becoming known for its biased reporting of the Israeli/Palestinian war, and, continued the reporter, the associate editor of The Guardian – a very influential newspaper -- claimed that Israel “has no right to defend itself” and noted that his goal is to spread his “revulsion” against
Israel around the world. Is this the United Kingdom that professes an unbiased press? In another publication, Sky News’ Jon Snow noted Israel’s goal in Gaza as “smashing and maiming, dismemberment and mass grief,” then went on to compare Israel’s actions “to the bombing of Dresden and nuclear attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki!” Snow also said that none of the Hamas rockets landed in Israel.
The UK magazine, The New Statesman, printed a cartoon showing a Jewish star piercing a Union Jack under the headline “A Kosher Conspiracy.” Lancet, the prestigious British medical journal, got into the fray calling Israel a murderous provoker and masquerading the Israei rockets to cover the ”massacre of innocent women and children.”
Protestors in London have waved signs pronouncing, “Well done Israel--Hitler would be proud,” and accusing Israel of “slaughtering pregnant women.” Some have even identified with Hamas, not just Palestinians, it was reported. One British MP said Jews were not welcome in his city of Bradford, and a Scottish activist said she intended to make Scotland Zionist (euphemism for Jews) free.
Even in Scotland, there have been protesters, and several cities, Glasgow and Fife, have considered flying the Palestinian flag over the national flag in sympathy with Gaza. You’ll note no mention of the thousands of rockets each day flying into Israel and the Israelis being killed, including little four-year-old Daniel Tragerman who couldn’t fun fast enough to the Israeli bomb shelter near his home!
