PUBLISHER'S NOTE

The High Holy Days are upon us. Which means the temperature in Southern California is at least 95 degrees. It also means that we have an especially "hot" issue to share with you!

Guest columnist Alan Morinis has written a thoughtful and timely essay especially for the High Holy Days. We will also give you nine different out-of-the-box ways to observe the High Holy Days.

We'll tell you about community member Elyse Gordon, who has fostered more than 100 babies with special needs. And we will let you know about the award-winning Israeli TV series that's making its broadcast TV debut on KCET this month (Hint: It's the series that the popular Showtime series Homeland is based on.)

Be sure to check out our review of Denial, the film based upon the true story of Deborah Lipstadt's libel defense against a British Holocaust denier.

And if you're looking for a new recipe to try, check out Dawn Lerman's My Grandmoter Beauty's Chicken Soup With a Kick. We did, and we loved it!

Thanks for reading!
