For many people, change can be a scary thing. But if there ever was a poster child for change, it could very easily be Rabbi Mariana Gindlin, the new rabbi at Congregation Shir Chadash in Lakewood. In the space of just a few short weeks, Rabbi Gindlin was ordained at the Academy for Jewish Religion in Los Angeles, adopted two year-old Danny and instantly became a single mom, moved from Las Vegas, where she had served for four years as Cantor at Temple Sinai of Las Vegas, and, following Rabbi Howard Laibson’s retirement, stepped into the pulpit at Congregation Shir Chadash. That adds up to some serious change!
Born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Rabbi Gindlin spent her early career steeped in her passion for teaching, performing and leading liturgical and popular Jewish music. In 2001, she served as the cantor in the Libertad Temple in Buenos Aires, where her father spent 30 years singing as a member of the professional choir.
Rabbi Gindlin re-located from Argentina to the United States in 2002. After serving as a cantorial soloist in Florida, she spent the past 4 years as music director and then cantor in Las Vegas. Why become a rabbi?
