It's no mere coincidence that Kashua and the character he created, Alian, share a lot in common. In September, 2008, Kashua moved with his wife and children from an Arab section of Jerusalem to a Jewish section - a nicer area with better water pressure. And in the first episode of Season 2, we find Amjad moving his family from their Arab neighborhood to a Jewish area after he takes a shower at a Jewish friend's place, and discovers the more robust water stream. Amjad isn't out to make any sort of political point. The man just wants to take better showers. (You can watch this episode here.)

Seeming to break new ground at almost every turn, Arab Labor is the first Israeli prime time series to feature Arabic-speaking characters. But ultimately, the laughter induced by Arab Labor may do more to improve Israeli-Palestinian relations than all of the formal diplomacy in the world.

Season 3 of Arab Labor begins this December on KCET. In the meantime, you can visit KCET's website and catch up on all of the episodes from Seasons 1 and 2. Along with these full episodes, you'll find helpful cultural explainers, which feature Palestinian-American comedian Aron Kader and Jewish-Israeli actress/philanthropist Naomi Ackerman, as they explain the historical references and provide cultural context for each of the episodes in Season 2.

MazelTov and congratulations to Sarah Pulido for coming in 1st place, and to Rebekah Pulido for receiving Honorable Mention, in the Evelyn Linden Baldwin writing contest at the Alpert JCC .
