Eloy Oakley announced that after 18 months of discussion, LBCC was preparing to convert to an electronic board agenda management system that would provide the expenditure details that Sunny had sought.

Looking back at the entire episode, Sunny remarks, “This really caused us to look inward and say that just because we've always done it this way, doesn't make it right. And to their credit, they came around. It wasn't a victory for me. It was a victory for the people and for the board.”

Sunny acknowledges the important role that Long Beach City College plays throughout the Greater Long Beach community. She points out, “We train our local workforce, we influence the local economy, we impact the local maritime and construction industries. and programs designed to support local small business owners as well as entrepreneurs considering new start-up ventures. And as part of the Small Business Administration, SBDC services are available to the community at no charge.

Sunny won't be facing re-election until 2018, yet she's already launched her re-election campaign effort, explaining, “I wanted to start early, to start reaching out to community members to see what we can be doing better. We are a community college, so I want to be sure that the people in our community know that they matter, and their opinions matter.”

To make it easy for members of the community to contact her and share their opinions, Sunny asked that we publish her phone number (562-270-5017), and email address ([email protected]) as part of this article, assuring us that she is anxious to hear from her community.
