Lombok - Pop Up Schools Project Lombok | Page 7

Indonesia’s Lombok was jolted with devastating earthquakes in late July and early August 2018. These earthquakes caused the deaths of more than 500 people, left hundreds injured and forced thousands of people to evacuate their homes. The weeks following the earthquakes many people lived without electricity and clean drinking water was difficult to access. With so many homes, businesses and schools destroyed the people and families of Lombok were left with much uncertainty.

Now, months after the earthquakes, thousands of children are still out of school. Over 400 schools were destroyed on the island, leaving young students with no place to go to learn. The pop up schools you have supported provide children with an earthquake resistant structure, school materials and child-centered activities as a temporary solution to get children back into school.

There is still a great deal of need on this beautiful island and there is still so much work left to be done to help all of the families and communities who have faced so much loss and devastation.
