SDN Gelogor is located in the Batukliang Utara sub-district of Central Lombok. Before the earthquakes of 2018, SDN Gelogor had six permanent classrooms serving 210 students and one teachers’ office for 14 teachers. The classrooms were occupied by 1st to 6th grade students. The earthquakes caused severe damage to four classrooms and damaged the roofs of the other two classrooms making all the classrooms unsafe for learning.

In early 2019, the Education Department of West Nusa Tenggara Province provided four temporary classrooms to replace the severely damaged classrooms. Those classrooms have been used by 3rd to 6th graders, but the 1st and 2nd graders were still using the old classrooms with the damaged roofs. Teachers and parents were worried about the safety of the children studying in these classrooms.

On the 3rd of February 2020, the building process began at SDN Gelogor to build two additional temporary classrooms for the 1st and 2nd grade students. These children have been studying in their new, earthquake-resistant classrooms since the 13th of February 2020.

The entire building process was implemented in coordination and close partnership with school management and community leaders to ensure a successful outcome. The initial assessment phase was fully supported by the Education Department of Central Lombok Regency and the local community. The Pelita Foundation team monitored the progress of the construction to ensure high-quality standards were met. They visited the site various times throughout the building process and are pleased with the cooperation of the community. The entire construction process went well and Pelita Foundation and Classroom of Hope are satisfied that all project objectives have been achieved. Construction was completed on the 12th of February 2020 and classrooms opened to the students the following day.
