SDN Gunung Borok is an elementary school for 1st to 6th grade students located in the Batukliang Utara sub-district of Central Lombok. Before the earthquakes of 2018, SDN Gunung Borok had six permanent classrooms and one teachers’ office. The school serves 146 students and employs 11 teachers.

The earthquakes seriously damaged four of the classrooms at SDN Gunung Borok. The damaged classrooms belonged to the 1st, 2nd, 5th and 6th grade students. The 3rd and 4th grade classrooms were not harmed. The Education Department of West Nusa Tenggara Province supported two temporary classrooms that are being used by the 5th and 6th grade students. The 1st and 2nd grade students, however, attended their classes on the terrace.

The two pop up classrooms implemented by Pelita Foundation at SDN Gunung Borok are now being used by the 1st and 2nd grade students. The building process began on 3rd of February 2020 and was completed on the 12th of February 2020. Students began occupying the classrooms the next day, 13th of February 2020.

The Pelita Foundation team monitored the progress of the construction to ensure high-quality standards were met. They visited the site various times throughout the building process and are pleased with the cooperation of the community. The entire construction process went well and Pelita Foundation and Classroom of Hope are satisfied that all project objectives have been achieved. The sustainability of the school is guaranteed through close cooperation and collaboration with the government. The community will ensure that the school is properly maintained. Pelita Foundation will carry out regular follow-up visits for monitoring and evaluation purposes.
