Currently settled in on Richmond ( as if you didn ’ t know ) in the elegant curved building full of natural light , perfectly set tables including fresh flowers and just the right amount of art , Tony ’ s fine Italian fare and dedication to high-end service continues to entertain and enchant our city after 50 years . But this is not to say Tony ’ s isn ’ t approachable . Everyone in the city should take the opportunity to enjoy an evening with such top-notch service and consistently cutting-edge food ; just remember that proper attire is required . And remember to take in the menu and ask questions , as you never quite know what seasonal specials the kitchen will be offering .
Bet you ’ re still admiring that photo ? Admit it , it ’ s beautiful . Tastes heavenly , too – many would argue no one in the city does soufflés like Tony ’ s , and damn that wine list . But , this perfect pair really showcases another beaut that Tony ’ s is known for : truffles . The current import , the black truffle from Norcia , Italy , a quaint town at the base of the Sibillini Mountains , is most certainly a real treat . Shaved tableside , the truffles land on your freshly baked soufflé drizzled in a champagne truffle sauce , the aroma of truffle fills the air around you , and you rejoice .
But then it gets even better , because here comes a barolo wine sourced from one of the area ’ s most famous single-vineyards – the 2009 Massolino Parafada Barolo . Did you know the village of Barolo , where nebbiolo grapes are grown to make this wine , is also home to some of the best truffle hunting in the world ? Well , now you do . Coincidence , we think not ! Tony ’ s GM , Scott Sulma , notes , “ Classic in style but approachable in its youth , the nimble tannic structure of this wine is ideal for the delicate flavors and aromas of the tubers ( truffle ). Its elegant notes of tar and rose petal also gently accentuate the earthy tones of the dish , one of the most popular at Tony ’ s ”. Bravo , Scott . Bravo .
