FASHIONABLE YOUNG DESIGNERS TAKE
ON THETA DESIGN WEEKEND
Since it’s the Fashion Issue, maybe you want to make your living space stylish, too. Good news!
Tickets are on sale for Theta Design Weekend, the three-day home décor shopping weekend and
interior design showcase taking place at George R. Brown Convention Center from December 1–3.
Theta Design Weekend will feature nearly 70 exhibitors from around the globe, showcasing a
broad range of offerings, including art, architecture, landscaping, décor, lighting and textiles – all
of which will be offered at varying price points – along with art walks, designer-led tours, special
guest speaker luncheons and additional events.
The weekend is chaired by the popular designer Mark Sikes and also features high-profile speaker
panels featuring renowned designers. Three of them join us here.
First up: Lindsey Herod. Lindsey Herod Interiors opened its doors in 2015 as a high-end resi-
dential interior design firm in her hometown, Houston. “My tastes lean toward the fashionable and
colorful, taking cues from the great mix masters of decorating, but I love to work in a multitude of
styles and flex my design muscles to make my client’s homes feel like a perfect expression of their
life and family,” she explains. Herod works in a range of project sizes including new construction,
renovations and full-service decoration and design.
Herod worked as a senior designer for New York-based decorator Celerie Kemble of Kemble
Interiors for seven years, prior to opening her own interior design firm. She has decorated homes
in New York, Palm Beach, East Hampton, Connecticut, Scottsdale, Denver, San Antonio, Dallas
and of course Houston.
What’s Ben Johnston all about? The designer is known for creating distinctive, layered spaces
that are luxurious reflections of his clients’ personal tastes and histories. Taking inspirational cues
from a variety of cultures and time periods, Johnston blends new and vintage pieces to create
contemporary spaces that feel curated over a lifetime.
He accomplishes this tasteful mix while adhering to the classic design principles of balance and sim-
plicity, through the use of clean lines and tailored details. “I attribute my sensibilities to my previous
study and practice of architecture,” he says. Johnston often utilizes tone-on-tone palettes to create
a harmonious balance and then punctuates them with unexpected moments to delight and surprise.
Finally, meet Hallie Henley Sims. Her eponymous Hallie Henley Design is a local interior design
firm committed to creating timeless, sophisticated and comfortable interiors that are reflective of
the individuals who inhabit them. Sims leverages multiple years of experience in the hospitality
and high-end residential design fields to create spaces that are fresh, tailored and eminently chic.
This rising design star began her career at the hospitality design firm Duncan Miller Ullmann Design,
working on boutique hotel projects in the US and abroad in China. Sims then went on to fine tune
her design talents working for the award-winning residential design firm Courtney Hill Interiors in
Houston. Her portfolio of work includes new ground-up construction projects as well as full-scale
renovations.
