This year’s exhibition – the 23rd edition –brought more than 300 submissions to the Museum from across the Houston area. The diversity of and connections between different neighborhoods become clear through the images, with an overwhelming focus on what the teens experienced because of the unprecedented 2017 storm Hurricane Harvey. The 64 photographs selected for this presentation of Eye on Houston showcase work by 42 junior and senior students from various high schools in Houston. The Human Rights Art exhibition cultivates human rights awareness, reflection and activ- ism, showcased in 32 mixed media artworks from the permanent collection of South Texas College. This educational exhibition address- ing global and regional human rights, social justice and environmental issues features artists Sharon Sayegh, Keith Sharp, Guadalupe Victoria Reyes and Deborah South McEvoy. Through their artwork and personal statements, the artists strive to encourage reflection, and generate discussion that ultimately leads to change. Particle Chamber (2017) is an immersive new installation by Leo Villareal. Utilizing the latest projection technology to create dynamic points of light across a hemisphere of screens, Villareal enables visitors to encounter an ethereal chamber of ever-moving pixels algorithmically programmed to form infinitely new patterns. This exhibit highlights Villareal’s creative engagement with light, space, tech- nology and sensory perception. 5601 Main St. | 713.639.7300 | www.mfah.org Through June 24. 36 L O C A L | 5 . 2018 Through June 3.
