FOOD BUTTERED UP CROISSANTS WHOLESALE IS THE AMERICAN DREAM HOUSTON’S CROISSANTS WHOLESALE has taken a big bite out of the local and Texas pastry business in its 15 years of rapid growth. The company was started by ALBERTO LONDONO, a Colombian immigrant, in 2003. He had arrived in the United States in the 1980s with only five dollars in his pocket and stumbled upon a baking job with a company named Le Charm de France. Starting from the bottom of the food chain in the baking world, Alberto moved from a night shift baker to management position, overseeing the croissant department. In 2003, after accumulating more than 20 years of croissant experience, he decided to leave his then-current position to start his own company. Since its founding, Croissants Wholesale has grown substantially from word of mouth, with no promotion or marketing. In 2016, Alberto’s son Alexander joined the company, handling general operations, which primarily consist of customer relations. The business currently has more than 600 customers all over Texas, most of them being local donut shops and restaurants. “We believe our secret to success is providing an authentic European-style croissant to the Greater Houston area,” says Alexander. “A croissant that literally makes you believe you’re in France when you take a bite of its buttery goodness.” www.croissantswholesale.com 04.18.2018 4:41pm 20 dine write 24 chef‘s special 26 tablescape 28 open 30 perfect pair 32 club review Photography by Pana Vasquez 18 L O C A L | 5 . 2018 5 . 2018 | L O C A L 19
