LETTER
FROM THE
EDITOR
You may not think of Houston as an entertainment capital along the lines of New
York or Los Angeles, but I present this question to you: What do Jennifer Garner,
Wes Anderson, Patrick Swayze, Richard Linklater, Jaclyn Smith, Phylicia Rashad
and Billy Gibbons have in common? That’s right – they were all born in Houston.
I was going to give you Beyoncé, Jim Parsons and Matt Bomer, too, but that
would have made it too easy.
Just think about that range of talent – all cultivated locally and then delivered to
the world. Houston is a hotbed of creative people pursuing their dreams, wheth-
er it takes them around the corner or around the planet on tour. In this month’s
Entertainment Issue, we’ll meet artists, musicians, actors, performers and geniuses
who are all on their creative journeys – whether it’s JOSHUA RUSH, who just
landed a lead role in Disney’s “Andi Mack,” the hard-working and glamorous
drag performer CHLOE T. CRAWFORD, Broadway star STEPHANIE STYLES or
local yoga DJ legend JOHN TRAN. Also, for the first time ever, CIRQUE DU
SOLEIL lets a Houston magazine go on stage with their performers, props and
sets to shoot this month’s ‘Fat Finds‘ fashion feature.
As always, we keep you entertained with the latest food, art, event and style
news created by our talented teams of writers and photographers who deliver
excellent performances every month. I think they deserve a standing ovation with
this issue…yes, it’s that good.
Thank you for reading LOCAL.

BEHIND
THE COVER
LOCAL Houston magazine was invited by Cirque du Soleil to partner with
them on this month’s fashion shoot, and we immediately jumped at the
opportunity. Shot inside the Big Top erected at Sam Houston Race Park,
photographer CODY BESS and stylist MARZI PETRIS created a fashion fan-
tasy like no other with the show’s performers, props and sets. The show runs
through May 21. Visit www.cirquedusoleil.com/kurios for ticket information.
