It’s an Entertainment Issue miracle! Just in time, a neighborhood
favorite reemerges. While it now looks poised to be a solid dive
bar, it also happens to be one of Houston’s great venues for
blues and rock, so it‘s only fitting for this issue. And without fur-
ther ado, Dan Electro’s Guitar Bar is back [rounds of applause].
Closed for a while there, the “new” Dan Electro’s was reopened
by Heights neighbors in March, and rest assured they are ready
to rock (but only between 8–12 on Friday and Saturday nights
– gotta be a good neighbor) and roll seven days a week as a
full bar (this is new). In music terms, this whole reopening is like
Bon Iver winning a Grammy. This “new” Dan Electro’s wants to
be more noticeable to the greater public and a better neigh-
bor where previously Dan was, let’s just say, underappreciated.
Anyway, the full bar really changes Dan’s (first-name basis) ap-
proach; it‘s a great watering hole for the hood. And the farmers
market on Sundays, along with crawfish boils, just adds to the
new appeal.
But listen, Dan’s is still a little rundown. Don’t let that deter you,
though – it’s part of the charm. The backyard is also part of the
charm, complete with patios, a shed, weeds, patio furniture,
picnic tables, an old grill and hanging lights right next to actual
residential neighbors. Real deal. Inside, Dan has a corner stage
just past the bar, a great pool table and jukebox, a stack of
board games for entertainment when there isn’t a show and
you need something more than people, and of course, plenty of
seating. Since it’s still early in the reopening, rather than telling
you about the patrons, we’ll point you in the direction of the
shows so you can attend one, or pick a random day to stop by
and experience them for yourself. All events will be posted on
Facebook because, like the sign says, of course, they are on
the Internet.
By the time you read this, there will be a keg cooler full of 8–10
kegs of beer which will allow for draft beer to be poured from
taps featuring local Heights breweries such as Eureka Heights
and Town in City. There will a lso be a frozen machine cranking,
rotating specialties round and round for your frozen drink plea-
sure. These accompany a solid selection of bottled and canned
beers, Topo Chico for the hip and a whole back bar of spirits.
New Dan Electro’s aims to please and looks poised to make
some great drinks to go with great music and fans alike! Just take
the Grammy now, Best New Bar. Just take it!!
