LET’S BOWL
ART STRIKES OUT HUNGER
Mark your calendar for the 13th annual EMPTY BOWLS HOUSTON on June 3, held from 11am–3pm at the
Houston Center for Contemporary Craft.
The skinny: Empty Bowls is an international effort to fight hunger, implemented in Houston to benefit the Houston
Food Bank. The unique lunch fundraiser is a collaboration between Houston area ceramists, woodturners and artists
working in all media and Houston Center for Contemporary Craft. In its first 12 years, Empty Bowls Houston has raised
a whopping $745,685 for the Houston Food Bank. (This equals 2,237,054 meals to the hungry!)
For a minimum $25 donation, attendees receive a simple lunch of soup and bread provided by Whole Foods Market,
and then select a bowl from 1,500-plus, one-of-a-kind, hand-crafted works of art donated by Houston area ceramists
and craft artists. The empty bowls serve as a reminder of all the empty bowls in our community and the world. There
are also larger bowls available at a higher price (lunch also included). Plus, there’s live music and artist demonstrations
throughout the day, so it’s a fun, family-friendly event.
You can get first crack at the bowl-buying at a special Empty Bowls Houston Preview Party on Friday, June 2,
from 6–8pm at the Craft Center. Enjoy light bites, beer and wine, and the first opportunity to purchase an Empty Bowl!
Tickets are $50 and can be purchased at www.EmptyBowlsHouston.org.
