RED CROSS HAS BIG NEWS Broadcast journalism icon DAN RATHER will offer the keynote address at the American Red Cross of the Texas Gulf Coast ’ s Wrapped in Red Luncheon , to be held on Thursday , March 23 , at 12pm at Hilton Americas-Houston , 1600 Lamar . The Wharton , Texas native will reflect on his 60-year career at the event , which is aimed at raising funds for critical community services while honoring donors and partners who help make those services possible . With any luck , maybe he ’ ll offer some thoughts on our current interesting times .
“ We are delighted that Mr . Rather will be our keynote speaker on March 23 ,” said Jessy Morgenroth , Red Cross Regional Chief Development Officer . “ His unique perspective as a journalist chronicling six decades of world events will surely offer a memorable experience to all who attend .”

LET ’ S ROLL THE TOUR DE HOUSTON returns to the city on Sunday , March 19 . Presented by Apache Corporation and benefiting the Re-Plant Houston Program managed by the Houston Parks and Recreation Department , the tour welcomes cyclists of all ages and proficiency . The ride begins and ends at City Hall , with the first start at 7:30am ( 61.45-mile route ) followed by another at 8am ( 43.55- mile route ) and 8:30am ( 20-mile route ). Mayor Sylvester Turner will be on hand to start and ride in the event with the route heading to Missouri City for the first time in history .
“ We are thrilled to welcome back the Apache Corporation as the title sponsor of this event . They continue , year after year , to provide support and generosity in helping to reforest our parks and open spaces ,” said Mayor Turner . “ I can ’ t think of a better way for Houstonians to see our scenic city and enjoy the outdoors .”
