BERNIE’S BURGER BUS PARKS IN THE HEIGHTS
THE TRIP MAY HAVE TAKEN TWO YEARS, BUT BERNIE’S HAS FINALLY ARRIVED IN A PERMANENT LOCATION IN THE
HEIGHTS. CHEF-OWNER JUSTIN TURNER’S BRICK-AND-MORTAR LOCATION OPENED AT 2200 YALE ON JULY 31.
No longer just a burger-focused food truck, the new Bernie’s (after locations in Bellaire and Katy) is a full-on restaurant
with a full breakfast menu, chicken sandwiches and a stocked bar called “The Teachers Lounge” with milkshakes and
frozen drinks (all alcohol-powered). The drinks menu was co-developed with bartender Linda Salinas, who honed her
skills at La Grange, Anvil and 13 Celsius. You can also enjoy a full selection of beer and wine.
Also to be found at this location: the original Bernie’s Burger Bus school bus, now tricked out with a grill top
customized to mirror the original Bernie’s bus, where hungry diners can see the staff hard at work, making burgers and
shakes daily. The 3,300sf restaurant seats 100 customers inside, including bar seating and high tops, as well as more
than 20 seats on the dog-friendly patio.
An expanded happy hour, exclusive to this location, will take place seven days a week from 3– 7pm, offering $5 frozen
drinks, $1 off boozy shakes, $4 drafts and $5 wines. The Heights location will include chalkboard art by talented local
artist Matthew Tabor, along with a trophy case and lockers to extend the restaurant’s schoolhouse concept.
School’s in session. Don’t be tardy.
