COMMUNITY
FARM STAND FRESH
Pesticides, herbicides and insecticides are used to cover the stress of travel on fresh produce as it travels hundreds or thousands of miles to reach consumers. The more healthconscious and environmentally aware we become, it just makes sense that buying food as
locally as feasible is the best thing for us – in myriad ways.
Urban Gardens created by Plant It Forward along with numerous area farms provide
Houston with more availability of fresh produce than ever before. You may have heard of
the larger farmer’s markets – like the Urban Harvest Eastside Farmer’s Market at 3000
Richmond every Saturday or the Rice University Market Tuesdays from 3:30–6:30pm but
did you know there are many other smaller markets and events throughout Houston?
In addition, CSAs (Community-Supported Agriculture programs) enable you to get a
weekly or bi-weekly share of seasonal produce that makes it easy to GET YOUR VEG ON.
